Stories from the road, the land,
and the long arc of American roots music
Mark Griffin draws on a life richly lived — from early years on a farm to working in cities across the world. That breadth of experience flows naturally into songs that aim for simplicity, meaning, and a touch of irony.
His music spans the full arc of the acoustic American roots tradition: the raw expressiveness of 1920s and 30s delta blues, the storytelling depth of the folk revival, the warmth of country, and the drive of bluegrass. Mark sings over a solid fingerpicking style, using alternating bass and treble melody to fill a room with one guitar and one voice.
He has built a repertoire of over 200 songs — every one with lyrics that mean something and a tune you'll carry home. His original song "The Fencing Line" was a Tamworth Songwriter Competition finalist in 2023, and "Taking Over My Mind" reached the Top 30 of the Australian Songwriter Association's Country Song chart.
Mark's set blends the familiar with the surprising. Audiences hear songs they know and love sitting comfortably alongside originals that feel like they've always existed. The mood can be contemplative, joyful, or wryly funny — sometimes all three in the same song.
His fingerpicking style gives solo performances a fullness that belies the single-instrument format. Whether at a pub front bar, a festival stage, or a community hall, the music fits the room.
Flexible sets from 30 minutes to 2+ hours. Full sets for festival slots, shorter sets for support or busking formats.
A curated blend of well-known covers (delta blues, folk classics, country standards) and compelling originals — balanced to suit the audience and occasion.
Enough original material for a full 40-minute set, meeting festival requirements. All originals are competition-calibre songwriting.
Ideal for blues, country, and folk festivals; pub and hotel acoustic sessions; community events; and all-ages listening rooms.
